Understanding tarot
What Tarot Can (and Can't) Do
An honest answer to what a reading can offer, and what it can't.
Before you book a reading, it's worth knowing what you're actually booking. Tarot carries a lot of baggage: mysterious predictions, fortune-telling, the sense that a stranger is about to tell you something you can't take back.
That's not what a reading with me is. Here's an honest answer to what tarot can offer, and just as importantly, what it can't.
What tarot can't do
It can't predict a fixed future. A reading doesn't guarantee future outcomes or replace your own judgement and decisions. The cards don't show a single, locked-in path you're powerless to change. They show possibilities, patterns and influences, not a verdict.
It can't tell you what to do. A reading isn't a set of instructions. Handing a decision entirely to a deck of cards would take something important away from you: the decisions stay yours, always.
It isn't a substitute for professional advice. Tarot readings are intended for personal reflection, perspective and guidance. They aren't a substitute for medical, legal, financial, psychological or other professional advice. If you're facing a decision that needs a doctor, lawyer, accountant or therapist, a reading sits alongside that, not instead of it.
It shouldn't leave you afraid. A meaningful reading should leave you with greater clarity, not fear or confusion. If a reading ever left you more anxious than when you arrived, something has gone wrong with how it was delivered, not with what tarot is capable of.
What tarot can do
It can offer perspective. A reading helps you explore what may be influencing a situation, understand your own thoughts and feelings, and consider the possibilities ahead. Sometimes the most useful thing isn't a new fact, but a different angle on a fact you already had.
It can surface patterns. Tarot can help you notice what keeps showing up in your decisions, your relationships or your choices, things that are easy to miss from the inside of a situation.
It can hold space for a question you haven't fully worked out yet. Not every question arrives fully formed. A reading can help you find the shape of what you're actually asking.
It can help you move forward with more confidence. The aim isn't to tell you what to do, but to help you find greater clarity, so you can decide for yourself and move forward on your own terms.
The approach behind this
This isn't just a personal philosophy, it's how every reading here is built, around four things:
- Direct and honest. Clear, straightforward guidance, without unnecessary mystery or sensationalism.
- Intuitive. Reading the cards with experience, intuition and attention to your individual situation.
- Grounded. Keeping the focus on your real questions, circumstances and perspective.
- Empowering. The purpose of a reading is to help you understand, reflect and make your own informed choices.
A simple way to think about it
A reading is closer to a conversation with someone who has a different vantage point on your situation than a proclamation about your fate. The cards give shape to the conversation, but you're still the one doing the deciding.
If that's the kind of reading you're looking for, whether that's working through a relationship question, a career choice, or something harder to name, that's exactly what a reading here is for.
