What to Expect at Your First Online Tarot Reading
What actually happens, step by step, so you can arrive feeling settled.
If you've never had a tarot reading before, it's natural to feel a little unsure. Will it be strange? Will you have to say a lot? Will you be told something you don't want to hear?
These are common worries, and they're worth answering before you book. This guide walks through what actually happens, from choosing a reading to receiving it, so you can arrive at your first reading feeling settled.
First, what a reading is (and isn't)
A tarot reading isn't a prediction of a fixed future, and it isn't about being told what to do. It's a way of looking at your situation from a different angle.
In a reading, the cards help you explore what may be influencing a situation, understand your own thoughts and feelings, and consider the possibilities ahead. The aim is clarity, so you can decide for yourself.
A meaningful reading should leave you feeling clearer, not frightened or confused. Our FAQ covers this in more detail.
What can I ask about?
Almost anything where you'd value perspective. People most often bring questions about:
- Relationships: love, connection, and how you relate to others
- Career: direction, choices, and what comes next at work
- Life decisions: a second view when a choice matters
- Personal growth: patterns, goals, and what you want to understand
- General guidance: no single question, just what's on your mind
You don't need a perfectly worded question, and you don't need to know exactly what you want to ask. Starting with "I'm not sure what I'm looking for" is perfectly fine.
How it works, step by step
Booking a reading takes four simple steps.
- Choose a format. A live conversation with me over Zoom or Google Meet, or a recorded reading you receive by email and can replay. If you're not sure which suits you, this guide to choosing can help.
- Choose a package. For a live reading, that's 30, 60 or 90 minutes. For a recorded reading, it's 5, 7 or 11 questions. Prices are AUD $60, $80 or $100, and they're the same for both formats at each level.
- Book and pay. For a live reading, you pick a date and time that suits you (times are in Australian Eastern Time). For a recorded reading, you choose your package and pay by card through Stripe, then send your questions afterwards.
- Receive your reading. For a live reading, you'll receive a calendar invitation for your appointment. For a recorded reading, your video is delivered by email within 3 business days after I receive your questions. Both include a written summary.
What happens in a live reading
You'll join a private, one-to-one video call with me at your booked time. There's no need to prepare anything elaborate.
We'll begin with what you'd like to explore. You're welcome to share as much or as little context as you're comfortable with. I'll draw the cards and talk you through what they may be showing, and you can ask questions as we go.
Because it's a conversation, you can say "that doesn't quite fit", ask me to look at something more closely, or add detail that changes how a card reads. Afterwards, you'll receive a written summary by email so you have something to come back to.
What happens in a recorded reading
When you book, you'll choose your package and add any context in a short optional note. After booking, you'll submit your questions, one for each slot in your package.
I then sit down with the cards and record a personalised reading around your questions, addressing each in turn. You'll receive the video by email, along with a written summary and a bonus insight where appropriate.
You can watch it when you're ready, in a quiet moment, and return to it as often as you like.
How to prepare
You don't need to do much. Three small things can help:
- Think about what you'd like guidance on. A rough sense of the situation is enough.
- Choose a quiet time and place. For a live reading, somewhere you won't be interrupted. For a recorded reading, when you can give it your full attention.
- Bring an open mind. Tarot works best as a way of reflecting, not as a test.
If you'd like to think about your questions in advance, try starting them with "what" or "how", such as "What may be influencing this decision?" or "How can I approach this conversation?". They tend to give you more to work with than a simple yes or no.
A few things worth knowing
- Readings are for people aged 18 and over.
- A reading isn't a substitute for professional advice. It's for personal reflection, perspective and guidance, not for medical, legal, financial or psychological advice.
- Nothing is guaranteed. A reading doesn't promise a future outcome or replace your own judgement. The decisions stay yours.
- Changes are simple. Live appointments can be rescheduled free of charge with at least 24 hours' notice. The full details are on the FAQ.
Ready when you are
If you'd like to talk it through, you can book a live reading. If you'd prefer to receive it in your own time, you can order a recorded reading. If you have a question before booking, you're always welcome to get in touch.
Find clarity. Move forward.
